Why You Notice Those Window Problems More Often in Summer

What is it about summer that causes you to notice the dirty windows more readily? For starters, it’s obvious that the sun is going to be shining in stronger during the summer than in the winter. But that’s not the only reason.

At the beginning of summer, maybe during spring, you could have thoroughly cleaned your windows from top to bottom. You might have gotten a small scrub brush, some newspapers, good cleaning solution, and got them looking almost like new once again.

It’s a great feeling when you can throw open the curtains or the shutters and allow the fresh sunlight into your home, especially after a long, drawn out winter. By the time August rolls around, those windows are looking pretty haggard once again. You can get out there and clean, of course, but it’s much hotter and it may not be practical, especially if you go on vacation or have other things going on in the warmer weather.

One of the key reasons people have a tendency to notice problems with their windows more in the summer is because they open and close them much more frequently. They’re more prone to making sure sunlight can get into the home, especially during the morning and evening hours, and when the temperature is just right, fresh air can be invigorating.

When you have lawn work going on around your property, even if it’s just once a week or once every other week, it’s going to be kicking up a lot of dirt and dust. All of that dust collects somewhere, including on those windows. With the sun constantly beating down, it can be cooking some of that dust into the glass itself.

If you’re not careful and don’t pay attention to cleaning those windows as often as you might like, you could find them looking pitted, edged, and old much more quickly than you should.

If your windows are old, such as at least 10 or 15 years old, it’s time to consider replacing them. Replacement windows will still have many of the common issues older windows have with regard to cleanliness, but they look great, can be easier to maintain, and will actually help to increase the value of your home, as long as you choose decent quality windows.
